Photography Question

katie anaya

good photo? bad photo?

I have a interesting dilema. I've been taking photos pretty seriously for a couple years now and have seen my images progress from ok...to what I think are pretty good. but therein lies my question: how do I know if my photo is any good? a lot of the time I think it's great but I'm never quite sure if that just because I'm the photographer. while I might put an image up on my wall...how do I know if that image is something someone else wants to put up on their wall?

There's an old saying I'm sure you've heard that states - "Run it up the flagpole, and see who salutes it." This certainly applies to your inquiry.
Remember also - "quality" and/or "image content" has NOTHING to do with sales appeal. Only the buying public will inform you as to whether or not they want to purchase your images. NOT your friends, family, etc. And the only way to determine if anyone wants to buy your images is to offer them for sale. Put a "for sale" sign on it, and see who responds.

  hi katie,

i think michael here gave you an excellent answer.

in addition, if you're taking any photo courses (in person, not via web), your professor/teacher should be there to critique your photo and ability.

: )
