model/property release forms

Do you have to get a property release form if you take a picture of private property on public property. (i.e. taking a picture of an old barn, house,
pond, etc..) I like photographing old wood side barns and of course those are on private property. Wendy

  Yes and No,
Yes if your are planning to submit the images into somthing to make money off it and no if your just shooting for yourself. It is always good practice to always ask the property owner permission anyhow. I live in the country and some of these backwoods rednecks are real picky about trespassing.
Some of them will not hesitate to pull out a gun and fire off a round or two. I'm sure with you shooting old barns you may have even ran into this type of person (usually an old man or old woman). Most of the time if you ask permission they will let you in exchange for some shots, maybe even blowing them up a picture to an 8x10 so they can put it on the wall.
There is a property release example on Http://www.photoethnography.com/technique/propertyrealease.html
but you may want to go to an attorney for an actual form....
