Can I give pictures away?

Hello. I recently attended a state championship basketball tournament and took some pictures that turned out really well. I would like to send jpg web size versions to the winning school for them to use as they wish. However I am concerned about liability I could face if they ever misused them. Please know that there were 2 players on the team that will in all likelihood one day be star Div I players and possibly pro players. Thanks in advance.

there's no liability. They're your pictures. You can do whatever you like.

  Tony,

So, if I take photos at a youth sports game or pro football game, will I be able to post the photos on my website portfolio without having liability?

Steve

You're fine as long as you're not trying to sell them for publication. Sales as prints off of your web site or just for web display is ok.

  Tony,

So just to clarify, I can post it on my website for display and/or sell prints off of the website without a release but if I was trying to sell them for publication, then I will need a model release etc.

Thanks,
Steve
