Photographing a City Street

I want to shoot a picture of a downtown street in my hometown. It is a quaint street with little shops and antique stores. What I am wondering is what type of lens would be best for this? I am shooting with a Canon EOS 20D. I normally just shoot people, so a street is totally new for me. Any help greatly appreciated.

Because it's new is why the best answer is probably take 2 or 3 and experiment. It's not a one way street, not one way to shoot it. Shoot it long, shoot it short. Focal lengths that is. As well as shutter speeds, before I hit the submit button.
