Where to get insurance for weddings Can anyone tell me where I can get insurance for a wedding I will be photographing in April? I am not in business, but hope to be soon, in the meantime, I am doing a wedding for my Mom's friend. I'd also like to know if there are any free websites I can post my portfolio on for the wedding couple to view. One more question: Does "freelance wedding photographer" mean that a person does this as a hobby, for money, but is not using a business license? Or is it even legal to collect money for weddings, without a bus.lic.? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Check with your insurance agent. He may have something for you. Unless you do go into the business, I am not sure an insurance policy will be worth the expense. I am unaware of any free websites where you can post the pictures but, if you do go into the business, you should get your own site. They really aren't that expensive. Freelance wedding photographer just means you work for free for a guy named Lance. (Sorry, my sarcastic streak is coming out.) Actually, a freelance photographer is one who works for himself/herself and hires out to whomever will hire him/her, rather than working for a company (like a newspaper). It has nothing to do with the professional/amateur status. They may work as a sole proprietor, an LLC or as a corporation. Regarding the license requirements, it varies by locale. In many places, a wedding photographer does not need a license unless there is a studio.Check with your local government. I wouldn't worry too much about it until you actually go into business.

Gallery.com has a free program you can use that is quite nice for a portfolio. Only thing you would be paying is to have it hosted somwhere. but it is well worth it and not that expansive. I use gallery.com for my client access site and it is hosted through my site.

Hi Stephanie, I am also looking for a site that can be used for that matter and so when I saw this posting, I thought I would check out gallery.com - yikes!!!! IT is a hard core PORN site! I copied what you typed (gallery.com) and what came up was an eye full! Do you think that you could re-list the site you MEANT (I hope) to put down? thanks Angela
