Useable Interior Lights

I need repeatable results for shooting still photos of objects. Currently, I just use an opaque shower curtain over some hoops to act as a diffuser with overhead fluorescent lights. I shoot mostly black and white 400 film using a 70-200 Zoom/macro lens. My Canon F1 is a manual camera with a built in battery operated meter. Do I need high priced photo lighting? (it would be nice) Can I just use adjustable shop Halogen lighting with the proper diffusers or replace the Halogen bulbs with something else? (less expensive) Most important to me is to be able to repeat the results from one project to another, with different subjects. Please advise, and thank you.

Jerry
