Steven, I have to agree with you. Being a Nikon user for 35 years, I have become somewhat discusted with Nikon over the past few years. They have truly lagged behind in the digital DSLR arena. Canon has jumped ahead, and Nikon has lost its once valued reputation. Canon is now the leader, coming out with one winner after another, and all Nikon can do is hope to hold onto second place. Granted Nikon is behind and always has been in regards to Canon in the last few years. It's a bit disconcerting, but before I get a home equity loan to move to Canon, I'll be getting the D2X next week. What I'm hearing from Canon shooters of the 1Ds is that the write time is very long, even with fast cards. Since digital is very easy to interpolate up, a 16.7 file may be overkill. Also, rumor has it that the 1.5 factor Nikon cmos sensor is sharper at the edges than the full frame Canon. I know that Nikon is aware that this is their last shot to keep the pro Nikon shooters from switching. I've seen the camera and the output. The files are clean. The camera has some great features and comes in at a more affordable price. We shall see, but I'm pretty optimistic about it. It's the nature of technology. The Nikon D2X will have some advanced features not on the 1Ds. The arms race continues.

Aren't they aiming at different buyers? I don't know as much about digital, but it seems like one really tries for faster while one tries for better quality (not saying that they aren't both great). Wasn't the D70 the camera of the year or something? The new Canon stuff just came out at the beginning of this year, didn't it? There's still a whole year isn't there?

I don't know if this was necessarily supposed to be a profound discussion question, but what else would they do besides come out with a new camera. Besides, if interpolation isn't an obstacle, the D2x might have to compete with a D20 instead of the 2nd edition D1s. Or even the 2nd edition D1.

What separates the D1/D1s and D2X from the S20 and D70 is the professional sealed camera bodies. A lot of Canon pros have the D20 as their backup camera to their D1/D1x's. I've submitted files from my Fuji S2 for stock and the files are excellent and acceptable. For any kind of outdoor work, a sealed body is a must. And although interpolation is not a major obstacle, file quality is, and file quality improves with each new generation of digital cameras.

if Nikon comes out with a new boy, then so dooes canon and my toys get cheaper. Nikon makes great cameras, they just have to work on Saturdays maybe to catch up

At the expos in LV, the only big boys are Canon and Nikon, but I did have a Fuji to start off with(great color shots, bad B&W) and Olympus(Great B&W -sepia,bad everything else).Now I got the CM2 (great evertything)
