Photography Question

Taking wedding photos

Hi my name is Erin, I am 21 years of age and I have worked in a studio for a little over a year now. I would also like to start doing more of my own work to eventually have my own studio. I love my job I love seeing the look on peoples faces when they get their photos back. Someone I know is getting married and they were wanting to know if I would be interested in taking the pictures. I have shot some wedding photos in the studio of mainly the bride and groom and their children. I was wondering if there is any advice you may have for me towards doing the wedding or not. I know that I have never done a real wedding, however there must be a first time for everything. I have in fact been hired to do many candid at two previous weddings and at one I took a couple shots of the bride alone and some with hers bridesmaids, and not to sound self centered but I believe they were great and so did the bride. It is an outside wedding that I would be doing, so as far as equipment what would you recommend having. I have seen our store do outside weddings before and all they had was basically the camera with a additional flash and some filters, and the pictures were great. Is this all that I would need to have? I am open for suggestions and comments.

So you think the shots you made were great? That is not self centered, that is called advertising! Good for you! Self-confidence is the first necessity for shooting a wedding. What equipment do you presently have? Most likely, you have what you need to get started. However, I do recommend a back-up for everything, even if you have to borrow it. Let me know what you have and I will make any recommendations I can.

  Hi Erin,
I agree with Kerry that you should definitely back everything up and have an additional shooter if possible. Like you said, there is a first time for everything, and you should go for it! Let us know how it goes. Best of luck!
