camera problems

my camera stopped suddenly and is giving the message "errr". I checked my handbook and it advises me to take it to a camera shop for repair. any idea what this is? and can I fix it myself?

i was taking pictures outdoors. normal conditions. no warning signs. battery shows to have full charge. when I pressed the button to snap the picture, everything froze.

thanks for your help and suggestions

during a wedding shoot a few mounths ago my minolta xtsi did the same thing.
no warning, good batteries,no previous problems !i had two backup cameras with me so it wasn't a big deal .during a short break I checked it out . it turned out one or two film cogs had stripped.i lost a few pics , because I had to open the back and push the film back manually, close the back and hit the manual rewind button.
camera was fine , and has worked fine since. don't know if this is your problem or not? you didn't say what kind of camera you had ???
