Trying to use a vignette filter on digital camera

I bought a cokin filter, the kind that is supposed to make a black, oval, vignette around the subject in the middle. I cannot get it to show up, the pics look the same across the frame. What am I doing wrong? I'm using a Nikon D100, I've used a 70-300 4.5/5.6, a Nikon 60 micro 2.8 and can't see it using either lens. Any suggestions? thanks

The reason is that the image size in a digital camera is much smaller than a 35mm film frame. Thus, your digital camera's sensor is only 'seeing' the middle section, where there is no vignetting.
This relates to the fact that you have a 1.5 lens factor with your D100. Your 60mm micro becomes a 90mm micro on the D100, etc.
The only remedy to your problem is to find a vignetter with a smaller clear center area.
