Photography Question

Loreece

How many watts?

I pretty much have decided on buying Alien bees.
I'll be shooting in my studio portraiture.
However, I am a bit questionable on how many lights ill need and how high of a watt.
Im thinking of going with 2 lights.
Should I get the b400 or b800?

Buy the most powerful lights you can afford. You can always cut back on the power, but you can't ever add more.
You'll find that a single strobe in a white umbrella or quality soft box will give you a comfortable f8 @ 100 WS for people. Unless your lights need to be 10-15 feet away, 100-200 WS is all you'll need per strobe for people shots. It's good to have a 400 or 800 WS strobe cut back to 100-200 WS, as the recycle time will be really short.
Now, you need to ascertain exactly what the watt second output of the Alien Bees actually is. Sometimes their nomenclature is misleading.
