Where to shoot? I am considering a photo shoot in the Pacific Northwest, particularly Oregon. I've never been to the area before- any suggestions on where to visit for great coastal shots? I am also considering the Hoh Rainforest. Amy Lindsey rainorshinephotos.com

In Oregon, you'll find a great concentration of subject matter in the Columbia River Gorge area. Also, you could spend several years driving the coast, visiting all the state parks, then driving up the central part of the state through the Cascade Mountains. In Washington, you'd certainly want to spend some time in the Olympic National Park area, including the Hoh Rain forest. Also, in the southeastern portion of the state is the Paloose area. Be sure to visit it. I have never been to the Northwest, but am learning as much about it as I can, as this will someday be my "trip of a lifetime" when I retire. I'd start in Northern California in the Redwood areas, drive up the coast to Olympic National Park, then head down to the Paloose area, and south through the Cascades. Perhaps we'll cross paths on our journey! Michael H. Cothran www.mhcphoto.net

Thank you Michael! I hope to spend about a week in the area. It's a toss up between the NW coast and the Grand Tetons. They both appeal to me, but I have a lot of mountain shots already so I'm leaning toward the beach shots.

Used to camp in the Hoh, and it has some great scenery, in Oregon, the whole coast is terrific, but I particularly like the area south of Coos Bay. Try the Culumbia River gorge in the state of Washington also, and don't forget Mt Hood and Mt Ranier

Up around the Hoh, you'll find Kalaloch (clay-lock)and LaPush....both great areas with rocks/driftwood, etc. right off SR101. The Hoh rainforest is really good, too, if you like moss and really wet stuff. I grew up in that area....:-) And I agree about Oregon. Along the coast highway, there aren't many spots that you shouldn't stop to shoot. And Mt Rainier.....it has it's own weather zone...depends on the hour you are there. Bob
