Minolta Xtsi off camera flash?

I have a Minolta Xtsi and would like to know if anyone uses an off camera flash with this model. It seems very hard to find these attachments. I have a dedicated Minolta flash. I take pictures at many parties professionally now and need to learn more about flash photography. I see other photograohers have their flashes off on the side? My lens is a 28-200. I also have a 75-300.

Check out promaster.com. They make a dedicated sync. cord for most cameras. Their site should direct you to a retailer that sells their products. I would also suggest you invest in a Stroboframe flip bracket. It will allow you to keep your flash above the camera, thereby eliminating the problem with side shadows.

Minolta has an Off Camera Cable, PN: OC-1100. There is a corresponding off camera shoe, the OS-1100. Using both of these, you can connect your flash to a bracket (like the Stroboframe Quick Flip 350) and keep the flash centered over the lens in both horizontal and vertical photos. Take a look at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=30084&item=3876320982 for an example of both of them. The OS-1100 is the part at the top of the photo and mounts to the bracket.

I've found that the OS-1100 has a little hole in it that tells the flash to operate "off camera". Although this is fine, it's really intended to cause the camera and flash to calculate its flash output differently than if it were on camera. I've taped over the little hole to force the camera to work with the flash as if it were connected directly. I would also suggest a flash modifier (such as the Sto-fen or Lumiquest) to soften the flash.

Thanks. I did get the cord and shoe and the Stroboframe bracket. I took a few inside pictures to test it and it seemed to light the top of the subjects head better. Maybe it is because I am a shorter person but I often have a hard time lighting up at higher levels.

I did a "fake" wedding fundraiser at my synagogue last night. I decided this was a good time to use this equiptment and try photographing a wedding. I put the handle on the left side of the camera. It was strange to flip the flash as well as the camera (this took some getting used to). I will get the pictures back soon to see if it made any difference in how I shoot. I also used Pro film.
