Photography Question

James OBrien

Dark images

Recently acquired Nikon D70, and experimenting with digital images. I noticed that when images are uploaded to computer they appear underexposed. When I view them on the LCD, and check exposure and histograms they look fine.
Is there any particular reason for this.

Thanks Jay O'Brien

My general experience indicates that LCD panels tend to overexpose the image you are viewing. However, if your D70 has a histogram function, which I think it does, turn it on to preview your image. Judge your exposure by what the histogram indicates, and ignore the LCD image (for exposure value).

Could the monitor be dark? Maybe if you have photoshop you can open a 'dark' image and click image > adjustments > auto levels and see how much it changes or if it still looks good. Maybe also try taking a picture directly from your card to walmart or someplace that has one of those little kiosks and print one 4x6 or something to see how the color looks on the print.
