National Photo Awards contest

Does anyone have information on the National Photo Awards contest? www.nationalphotoawards.com
I received an e-mail from them to enter their 2005 contest and I know there's a lot of scams out there. You have to pay for each photo entered so I didn't know if this was a scam or not. I took a look at their 2004 winners, and I have to say I'm not that impressed. I've seen much better work on better photo's site!! Just wondering if anyone knows about this.

I hear its best you don't enter in contest when you have to pay. Most of them are rip offs.

April,

There are many "free" photo competitions available, some are run by large photographic supply companies offering their products or cash as prizes. These competitions are favorable for every contestant. Please do enter these.

However, many other "free" competitions take the photos you have entered and resell them for a profit, or resell them back to all the winners in the form of a book. When you enter, you loose your copyrights to the photo, or you are one the many, many "lucky ones" who win and then are given the "opportunity" to purchase an expensive book of the winners from the host.

We run a legitimate print competition with an entry fee for each photograph entered. The reason? We pay national level judges to judge the prints entered. The entry fees also help support the maintenance and promotion of the competition website where the winners are displayed. The winners receive personalized trophies and ribbons.

I noticed someone answered your question with most competitions with paid entry are "rip offs". I don't know who this person is, but I do know he doesn't know much about photo competitions.

If you were not impressed with the 2004 winners, you may want to enter your work to see if the judges feel your work is superior (in comparison of others) in this year's competition.

If you have further questions, you may contact me directly, my contact information is on the National Photo Awards site, as well as all of the credentials and names of our top quality judges.

Dian, I agree that contests that you have to pay an entry fee in are not rip-offs. Because for example your State and County fair photo contests have an entry fee, and they are deffinitly not scams.

I think it's OK to pay to play. When you have to pay to WIN,...it would be wise to examine things a bit closer.
