Photography Question

Eliminating puffy eyes through lights

How can I eliminate the look of bags under the eyes in portrait photography, specifically black and white? Is it through the use of a flash, or is it remedied by using extra lighting (which I don't have)? And/or could I set my camera's exposure to +1 or +2 to sort of wash out the skin tone? This is for a headshot. Thanks!

A soft-focus filter will help to "iron out" wrinkles and other imperfections in tight close-ups.
I would avoid over-exposure settings as it would make your subject look pasty and un-natural.
