signing prints Hello, my question is about signing prints that I might make to display in my house or a friend of mine. Possible if I sell one I would like to have my name on it. Somebody suggested a sharpie permanent marker. While this may work for somebody like Brad Pitt or Michael Crichton signing a picture of themselves, I don't beleive this be the best for a print framed as an artistic piece. Often, I've seen some that have a while almost pen-like look to them. Some have even looked like very light pencil on the matting. What has worked the best for you? A few more questions, if the picture was taken in say 2004 and printed in 2005, will a date be '05 or '04? Also, if a limited number are produced in multiple sizes like 8x10 and 11x14, will it be advised to number the first of each size "1/XXX" or will they each be in their own series? Thank you very much for your time! Regards...

Be a little patient. Folks are not always sitting at their computers ready to answer your question. First, I would suggest you check on the Adorama.com website for pens to sign the photos. Click on mounting and storage then click on General Accessories. You will find many permanent markers you can use if you don't wan't to use a Sharpie marker. If the photo was taken in 04, mark it 04. If you want to number your prints, which I don't advise, I would only make one size. Let us see what you plan to market.

I did a very small gallery showing for the community college I attend. The Dean of the department advised me to sign my prints on the mat, with a pencil. It really looked good, and didn't take anything away from my print.

I'm really sorry about sounding impatient. I wasn't sure if this was regarding time or if I put it in the incorrect Q&A section. I was just basing my question and response time based on a bunch of other, probably much more simpler questions. But once again, I'm very sorry, and thank you for your reply.

No problem, Andrew. Sometimes it's just a matter of when you post your question. I, for one, am not often on my computer on the weekend. In fact, I was out shooting when your question was posted. Still would like to see some of your work. Please post it.
