Canon's 300D/Digital Rebel is a little less capable and a little less expensive; the 20D is a little more capable and costs a little more. ;-)

The 10D has been discontinued and the 20D replaces it in the product line. Canon's 580EX, 550EX, and 420EX speedlights go with it. Some 3rd party makes emulate E-TTL and will also work.

Pop Photo rated the D70 as Camera of the Year [2004.] In that issue, there was a discussion of the Canon 20D and the Nikon D70; the negatives on the D70 were such that it was unclear why it was awarded COTY - except for a slightly lower price. I wrote a Letter to the Editor questioning the rating - needless to say I got no response. The next month's issue went onto rave about the D20. Petersen's PhotoGraphic also raved about the D20. If you have Nikon equipment [non-digital] and like it, stay with Nikon. If you're making a change, you owe it to yourself to go to a reliable dealer that will let you test out all possible selctions before you plunk down your hard-earned cash. After reading lots of reviews, the battle between Canon and Nikon remains the same. Nikkors have been considered the best lenses [by a trifle;] Canon electronics are considered way ahead of other manufacturers. But, you must decide for yourself.
