just plain ol' yuck! F1.8, 1/800, theater. I'm so not the photographer, but I love pictures, having them and taking them... I just wanna know how to do it right.

Most of my photos are taking under theater like conditions. Dance recitals and competitions. How can I set my camera (Olympus Camedia C4040 Zoom)to get better pictures under those coniditions??? I'm so new at this but I would love to better my skills. Thanks in advance for your response.

I don't think your shutter speed was actually 1/800. Too much blur for that. You need to expose for just the lights, and not the black curtain.
Off of auto and use manual. You can use the monitor to judge what it should be. And if the light changes, you'll have to change your camera accordingly.

So, what are the best settings for a photo op in that situation. Change the FNo and the shutter speed???

Hi Josie! I feel your pain! I work in a high school and decided to take on the job of getting decent pics from their play and fashion show... Ha ha! It's really hard. Especially when they are on the move and the lighting keep changing and I don't have professional equipment. I've tried many different settings, and I think Aperture priority was the best. I'll have to go back and check. Here are a few samples of my better pics... which of course aren't great - but are better than anyone else has taken so far... Feel free to e-mail me.
