Photography Question

TLR for portrais

I want to start using MF for taking portaits out of my home studio. I currently take portraits for friends and family with 35mm and with my skill and proper lighting they have been pleasantly delighted. (BTW next to composition lighting is everything). NE way, I want to pump up the volume on my portraits by shooting with an MF. Because right now this is more of a hobbie than a profession my funds are limited, therefore I was lookin into buying a TLR Seagull. Will the focal length be OK for portraiture? If not, are there any tip, tricks, accesories to help create the pleasing results of the longer than normal focal length (50mm equiv.)?

MF is great for portrait work. TLR does well too but I would stay away from the Seagull. You can get a decent camera with a decent lens only if you are lucky. Besides that, the 75mm lens is not the best choice for portrait work. Before I would buy a new Seagull, I would look into the possibility of buying a used Mamiya TLR. I once had a Mamiya C33 and it was a great camera. It is heavy but that doesn't matter for studio work. You can also get a 135mm lens for it, which is a good length for portrait work and I can assure you it will be a better lens than the one on the Seagull. This setyp will probably cost a little more than the Seagull but not so much as to make it prohibitive (probably less than $100.00 more).
