Photography Question

Will my Rebel G lens work on the EOS Elan 7NE

I own a Canon Rebel G, I bought it new in 1997, and I also have three lens that fit it, alson with a flash. The one I really like is the Quantaray 70-300 mm, and it's my newest purchase, about 10 months ago. I take mostly rodeo shots, some horse shows, nature, pictures of our horses, and a few family pictures. I'm a newibe with lots to learn, but everyone likes the pictures that I do take, and I have several people ask me to take pictures at high school rodeos and open horse shows. But before I do that I'd like a camera that has a faster auto focus.

But I'm looking to purchase a new film camera, one that will work with the lens that I already have. I was looking at the Rebel T2 but then I was reading on this site about the EOS Elan 7N SLR and I was wondering if my Canon Rebel G lens will work on the EOS Elan 7NE SLR Camera?

So basically I was wondering if my Canon Rebel G camera lens will work with the EOS Elan 7NE?

  Maybe.

Quantaray is a house brand name used by Ritz and their affiliates. The lenses are made by Sigma, Tamron and other makers. If your Quantaray 70-300 has 62mm filter threads on the front, it is made by Tamron and will work without problem with the newer EOS models. If it has 58mm filter threads, it was probably made by Sigma and may cause problems when used with the latest EOS models. Typical symptom would be mirror locking up and flashing battery symbol. Sigma may be able to update the ROM chip in the lens to restore compatibility.

... and http://photonotes.org/articles/beginner-faq/lenses.html#compatibilitythirdparty for more information. (http://photonotes.org is a terrific Canon EOS resource.)

The Rebel T2 and Elan 7NE have improved AF sensors and algorithms compared to the Rebel G, but AF speed and accuracy may be limited by the technology used in your current lenses. Fastest AF speeds are achieved with Canon's ring-USM lenses, and lenses with larger maximum apertures will focus faster and more accurately.

Thanks for all the information, and I went and checked mine and it's a 62 mm.

But what about my canon lens, they should be compatible with it or not. I'm not sure what size they are. It's the lens that came with the canon rebel g.
