Highlites And Shadows

I have been experimenting with Sidelit and backlit techniques.
I uploaded a pphoto with shadows and highlights-- this is relatively new for me. Would appreciate comments and suggestions for getting good sidelit and backlit photos(with nice halo effect),where to meter, etc.

Also, I have an assignment to photograph an object with 90 degree sidelighting.I know where the sun should be, however this shot has thus far alluded(Spell check)me.

Where I live in NYC, I can catch 45 degree sidelit scenes at about 9 AM.
So, I guesse 90 degree can be obtained before high noon at approx 10-11 AM??

Thanks
Frank

90 degrees can be to the side as well.
Also, the light can come from something besides the sun as well.

Frank - sidelighting simply means that the light source should be to the side and shining to the other side. Don't worry (to a degree) about how high or low the sun is. The lower the sun, the more pronounced your side lighting will be. If you shadows are going left to right, or reversed, then you have sidelighting.
