mountain lions

I know that when people photograph cougars , they usually take pictures of ones in captivity. But when they dont, what are some methods they use to find mountain lions in the wild? Do they gather info on recent mountain lion sitings and go to that area and track it down or do they follow deer herds for long periods of time.

thanks, and please get back to me with some methods on this or people who photograph them in the WILD.

check for habitat, internet search for that or call national parks or rangers.
Once you're in an area where they live, you track them by looking for recent kills, foot prints, or droppings.
Nowadays in California, you could also try jogging trails. There's more and more encroachment of their territory.
