Shutter problem? Flash Problem? I just bought a second hand Canon T70 and all the shots on the first roll I took where between 1/4 an 1/2 blacked out from the top. I read the answer about this being a flash sync problem but I took all these pics in many shutter speeds and apertures without a flash. Does this lead to a camera problem with the shutter? Is it normally a simple fix or do I send it in for repair? ...Or maybe there is something I'm missing here and I don't know how to use this thing.

Fabian, Being that you have taken a lot of pictures without a flash and you have this problem, I would take it to a repair shop and see if your shutter is operating correctly. Unfortunately, this could be the reason the original owner let it go.

As you noted, this is the effect you would get if you used a flash and a shutter speed faster than the flash-sync speed of your camera (1/90 second for the T70). At 1/90 and slower speeds, the shutter should open on the entire film frame. At higher speeds, the first and second shutter curtains form a slit that moves across the frame, exposing a small section at a time. If you are getting this 1/4 to 1/2 blacked out effect when not using a flash, then there is a problem with the shutter. It is not opening fully at 1/90 and slower or it is not traveling across the full frame at higher speeds. The shutter is very delicate and is generally not a user-serviceable part. You should have it checked by a reputable camera repair shop. Good luck.
