how to shoot an impressionist type photo how could I create an outdoor portriat that looks more like an impressionist art painting? what camera filters would I need and color film? thank you koma

The color film you need is really not an issue. Use whatever you normally use. The key is in the filtration. The filter you need is a skylight filter. The trick is using vaseline on the filter to blur the image. You can use colored vaselines or, preferably, just use regular vaseline. Smear it on the skylight filter. The direction you smear it and the amount you use will determine how impressionistic your photo is. You will just have to experiment until you get what you want.

Another technique is to do multiple exposures. (a) 1 exposure sharply focused at the desired aperture, a second (or more) with focus set to a point closer than the subject (or change zoom setting) and at wide open aperture. This gives a blurry halo effect to the subject. (b) 5-9 or more exposures of the same scene on the same frame. Especially hand-held so that the exposures don't overlap exactly.
