Photography Question

Different Filters Needed?

I shot a friend's wedding this summer, inside church, used Sunpak 4000 flash on Minolta 650si camera, AE, UV filter, with a 70-300 macro lens.
The vibrant red carpeting did a color splash on the lower edges of the Brides' white gown in some photos.
What should I have done to compensate for that intense red color??
Live and learn. Any advice?
Thanks bunches.
B.J.

How often did the splash occur?
Hi Beverly,
My question is, was the splash on all or just most of the photos. If it wasn't on all of them, was it on the vertical or horizontal photos? Also, what speed film did you use?

P.S. For special events indoors, such as weddings, I wouldn't use a filter unless it was a color correction or light balancing filter due to daylight film being used indoors, filter such as an 80A or a FL-D filter.
