What digital camera is best? I am looking to buy a digital camera to use for action photography. Does any one have any suggestions on what is good in the $200-$500 price range? Thanks,

Melissa: I bought two Minolta Z1 cameras to give as gifts within the past year. This camera is great for action shots because it has a quick shutter realase and a wide zoom range. It has recently been replaced by the Z2 for about $350 but a few Z1s are avaliable on ebay for about $250. Ken Rush

The Minolta A2 is a good choice too. In bright light it takes crystal clear action shots. Higher up the price ladder is the Nikon D2H. It has a 37ms shutter lag-esentially instantaneous. It accepts a wide variety of excellent Nikkor zoom lenses. It can also shoot 8fps up to 40 frames.Great baseball camera. Hope this helps. Matt Heider

the best on the market the canon mark2 all the way across the board. If you get the 1ds mark2 you can get rid of your flim 35mm, but do you have $8000 to spend on the body. I shopped around and got my mark2 for $3200 - brand new Nikon, where are you?

It seems to me that Nikon is going more for an action/high shutter speed thing or sports stuff than what people might normally use the 1ds markII for. Anyway, Melissa, check out a local camera shop and check out which camera has the best quality but a good brand with the least shutter lag so you don't need to have any wait time between when you press the button and it actually takes a picture. Maybe look for image stabilization and a long zoom. Hope this helps!
