Hi Juan, Thanks for your interest in BetterPhoto's contest! Our goal is always to get the past month's finalists and winners announced by the 15th ... and sometimes we are actually successful! Hmmmm, perhaps "middle of the month" might be more accurate :-) After all, the contest is such a popular (and exciting)one, with soooooo many fantastic entries for the judges to go through. Well, it's good to know that we're still on hold, rather than that no news is bad news. A suggestion to Kerry and anyone else from BP who is listening: could you please make it easier for us to find the page where the finalists (not winners) are posted? I've heard others say that it is very difficult to find it and I have the same problem. Unless you receive a finalist email, there's no way of knowing, hence all of these emails asking "when". Perhaps a link on the home or contest page at the same time as the finalists are contacted.... I would think that it is something you'd want to feature, rather than hide, though by the time you finally get through the mountain of entries you probably drop in exhaustion and don't want to do anything else ;o) Thanks for all of your hard work to help us feed our photo addiction, Laura

Elizabeth commented that she didn't win. How do you know??? Do we know if the finalists have been contacted yet? I can't imagine how the judges are able to view and judge as many photos as they do. If they are running behind, a simple homepage note would be appreciated. Timely communication shows appreciation to the participants. The communication can be to say "...sorry, we are running behind, but we anticipate to notify finalists at such and such date". While using this site as a great learning tool, each contestant puts a lot of work and thought into their photos and there is a lot of anticipation waiting for the results.

I don't understand it....Why does everyone keep asking the same questions over and over? I too wonder about the finalist but Kerry already said that they were sorry and was running behind schedule. I think the judges at BetterPhoto has a huge task in judging a FREE contest and should be thanked for their efforts, instead of constant nagging. Do they need to limit the contest to one photo per month or charge an entry fee? Maybe then they will have an easier time making the deadline. I personally like one photo a day. But, I fear with all this complaining about the results, the rules may change. Just my 2 cents worth. Thanks BetterPhoto for doing a great job and take your time going over the photos. Maybe next months theme should be "patience". Aloha,

Okay maybe this isn't what you are talking about Laura, but on my BetterPhoto home page pretty much in the middle is a link to the contest winners and finalists which at the moment is November??? Maybe I misunderstood what you were asking??

Michelle, Yes, you can see the WINNERS easily enough, but on the day that the finalists receive their emails, see if you can find any link anywhere to a page listing the finalists--helpful for those who don't get that email and this would also cut down on all of this chatter about "when will the judges be finished". Remember, if you don't get that email, you have no way of knowing if the judging is finished until several days later when the Winners are posted. Imagine, we could just go to that (easily found) page and know if we have placed as a finalist or not, without having to get an email. And if the judges weren't finished, that notice could be posted on that page too. Hope that clears up what I meant. Laura

I recall when the November finalists were announced that they in fact DID have a link to the finalist on the BP HOMEPAGE. This was even before the winners were announced! I agree with Steve and Jessica, BP sets a tentative deadline for the finalists/winners to be announced, but WOW!!! what a task sorting through 10-15,000 entries! To Jim, Kerry, Heather, and everyone else at BP....thanks for the hard work you guys do to keep this WONDERFUL FREE contest going!!!!

I agree, Steve. EVERY month there are questions about finalists starting on the 15th. If everyone would just have a little patience, they will post them when they are done. Maybe they shouldn't even offer a tentative date!!I'm sure they try their best to get them out on time. They have lives too.

How about changing the homepage to say 'winners will be announced between the 15th thru the 20th of the following month' , then maybe some people would be more patient. I admit, that I too am very anxious this time of the month and keep checking my mail and the winners page to see if they have been announced. Not only am I looking for my shots, but want to see all those fantastic shots that made it through the process of selection. Know what I do to check on the chance that--horrrors!--I didn't get a finalist email? I look in at the Discussions (the Friendly Praise section) and check up on the photos that seem to have lots of comments posted. Then I check the date of the first posting. If it is in the current month then I know that the Finalists haven't been posted yet. Or I scroll to the bottom of a photo's posts to see if any of the postings are congratulatory. Wow, I was just asking a question. I didn't mean to ruffle so many feathers. Steve, I didn't think of my question as constant nagging. I also would like to add to your 2 cents that instead of entering a photo every single day, we should really look at our photos and enter only the best. I know if I entered 1 photo every day I would certainly be pressured in not sending my best shots (hence the name BETTER PHOTO) maybe that would also help take some of the effort off the judges. I have watched over the past few months and noticed the huge increase of photos entered each month. I am one to say that I think if the rules changed to just one photo per category a month It would make it easier on the judges. I see a lot of terrific work on this site, but the size is getting out of hand. I think next months theme should be "only your best ONE".

Hi Connie Jim did try to limit the amount of photos a month, but most of the BP members still wanted a photo a day....we all understand the time it takes to judge all these photos....but that is the fun of this contest. We all enjoy the friendships we've gained thru this site and have a lot of interactin between us. So, as far as your idea goes, it was suggested once before and we all begged Jim to put it back to one a day. Unfortunately, some people, somehow, are able to still download 3or 4...and it's those extra entries that create the extra amounts of pictures. So, it might be better if we all didnt complain about the exact time the finals and winners show up.They are doing the best they can and why fix it, if it's not broken?????

Connie, The last time the good folks at BP tried to cut us back to one per week, there was such an outcry that they had to change it back to one per day. Frankly I'm with you that limiting it would be a better thing all around, but really one per month?!! One a month would be like cold turkey for lots of the people here, so let's take it down sloooowly--maybe one every other day for a few months, then one per week. I imagine that BP would worry that too great a reduction might force many people to go elsewhere -- I know that this is only one of many posting sites for lots of even the most dedicated BPers. I also post at Digital Image Cafe, but mostly for the critiques, which are much more direct (and helpful) than here. Laura

Personally, I think we should all stop complaining about a couple days being late on the finalists!!! This can't be the most important thing in everyone's lives.....especially in what's going on in the world today!!!! Let's enjoy Better Photo and have fun with it. DECEMBER entries won't be judged til January! The finalists that come out in December are for November. The finalist link is under the large picture on the home page if they have been announced. The last one announced shows up under the big photo on the top right.
