How to become a wedding photographer

Hello, can anyone tell me what I need to do legally before I start charging money for wedding photography services. Do I need any licenses, permits, ect. or can I go without? I also need to know about reporting for taxes, and if insurance is necessary. Also, where is the best place to get the film developed, I currently use places like Walmart or Costco for my hobby snapshots.Any other advice is greatly appreciated!

Hi I am too just getting my Portrait and Weeding business underway. You do need to get a business licence (for tax purposes) but until you do that, you can take photos and get paid. You should also look into insurance (even for outdoor shots) to cover and greivances or other bizarre events - like the film getting lost, or destroyed, or you falling at the wedding site and getting injured. It would also be wise of you to get a Wedding Contract form and make sure you know exactle what the bride and Groom want. Visit the location prior to the wedding day. AND NEVER get the pics developed at Costco or Walmart- I made that misatke on a 25 Wedding anniversary where the couple renewed their vows and had a ceremony. They were friends so I did not charge very much, but the Cosco pics came out awful and I had to pay for those rolls plus get MANY pics reprinted at Shutterbug. Find a quality Lab, Like Shutterbug or 2001 Photos, or The LAB, some place liek this will ensure you get great qualiy on the FIRST time and save you money in the long run.
