Photography Question

Rhonda L. Tolar

How much vibration can a ccd chip take?

I am new to digital photography, but I know the ccd chip is sensitive to vibration or a hard hit.

I like to put my cameras on my motorcycle and ride out to the country to take pictures. Would any one know if that would be too much vibration for a digital ccd chip?

thank you for your input.

  Rhonda,
I dont know the exact answer to your question, but I do share a similar experience. I snowmobile, and was trying to figure out a way to pack my camera and lenses along for the ride. The photo store I went to did not recommend storing it on the sled, precisely for that reason (the vibrations, etc). What I did was purchase a backpack, its a Tamrac Expedition 3. The vibrations are less on my back then they would be attached to the sled itself. It holds my canon, along with three lenses, filters, etc.. And believe it or not, it also helps keep me warm! Good luck, and I hope this helps.

Thanks for you info Mary. I had posted this question on another message board and got a similar answer. They told me to put the camera on my body and have my body sheild the shock.

A backpack seems like the best answer to me also. Thanks again!
