Anyone out there use a Canon 85mm USM lens?? I am thinking of purchasing one for my portrait photography. If anyone has any positive or negative feedback on this particular lens, could you please share??

The older Canon FD 85 1.8 (manual focus) is very highly regarded as a portrait lens. Mine has noticeable pincushion distortion at the edges if I shoot buildings or through a doorway. The 85 USM can only be even better. I am told that the distortion in the autofocus version has been considerably tamed, if not eliminated. I use the 85 as one of my travel lenses, for portraits, flowers, and for a little reach for landscapes. If you are shooting film, don't hesitate to buy this lens.

Check out this Canon EOS fan's web site. He reviews this lens: http://emedia.leeward.hawaii.edu/frary/

If you are shooting digital and you want this kind of coverage, look at the 50mm f1.4.
