Looking for extenstion tubes Does anyone know a good place to buy extension tubes for a Canon AE-1 in the FD mount on line? I have tried ebay and there are not very many on there. Just wanting to look for other options to buy from. I would like to buy them in a set and if there used it's fine. I would like to do some macro work and they sound like a good alternative. Thanks for all your help. Sam

Luckily, they are fairly common, even on eBay. If you are using, for the most common example, a 25mm tube with your 50 (50 standard or 50 macro), go with the 25 FD-U, as it allows metering with the aperture wide open, just like any other FD lens on yoyur AE-1. If you want to use 50mm of extension with a 100mm lens, look for the 50 FD tube. The set of 5, 10, and 20-mm M-type tubes requires you to meter with the lens stopped down to shooting aperture. The down side to stop-down metering is that the screen goes REALLY dark, especially at the f16 or so apertures you need if you want depth of field in a macro shot. Look at keh.com, a good used equipment house that nearly always has these in stock. These tubes have no glass, so you lose nothing by buying a Bargain grade sample.

Sam, I noticed that earlier, you had a question on converters. Since you are interested in macro as well, you might want to look at the Vivitar 2x macro-focusing teleconverter. With a 50mm lens, you'd get working distance like a 100mm, plus macro to get you even closer. They go for around $45, and are very plentiful. The results are surprisingly good for a converter. See the macro shots of cicadas on my web page. Note that the shot using the Canon FD 85mm and the Vivitar MF converter is so sharp that even the hairs on the cicada's legs show up sharp.
