Photography Question
Scott Pedersen

Where does one write?

I was touring E-bay and found prints for sale there. Signed, numbered limited edition prints. I couldn't see any writing on the front anywhere so where do you sign and number the print at? Is it on the back or is there a white border on the print that just isn't in the ebay photo? Is there one I could look at someplace?
Now would any number of prints I have made from a negitave be considered an original? Im assuming that the original comes from the neg and the reprints would come from a scan of the print, am I correct here? Thanks....Scott

Scott, usually on the back of the printed media or on the lower bottom half of the photos just ask the photographer to see a more detailed picture or image and even ask that you want to see the signature, The Neg. is the "original" and very first photo printed out from it all other following them are reprints and should be limited to anywhere from 100 to 500 to 100,000 but keep in mind that the more that you print out there in the world the less they will be worth.
Hope this helped,
Tommy Luca

Sharon Morris   Scott, for years I have signed and numbered on the matte. I was told while preparing for a gallery showing, that I should be signing on the print itself. Believe it or not, the first show that I had with the prints signed, as opposed to the mattes, SOLD OUT!! When people are paying several hundred dollars for a piece of art work, they want it signed where it can be seen. Would you pay $10,000 for a Monet that could not be identified as such?

Scott Pedersen   Thanks Shari. Like your gallery, especially the north shore ones. I go to Duluth every summer, love it up there.

Sharon Morris   Thank you. The North Shore is my "special" place. There's just something about it. Have you been able to catch the Northern Lights while you were there? They're spectacular. I'm in the process of arranging the North Shore series into a series.
