flash won't fire with camers

Hi, I recently purchased a Sunpak 544 flash to use with my Canon Elan 7E. I am using a hot shoe adapter with a pc cord. The cord was supplied with the flash. The problem I am having is that I can not get the flash to fire automatically. The flash fires when I use the test button, but will not fire with my camera. What am I doing wrong? Please help. Thank you. Tammy Schmidt

Sounds like you might not be getting a good connection,...either with the cord, or on the hot-shoe.
Try sliding the adapter off and on a few times, and crimping the p/c cord connector...(very gingerly)...before applying it.

Does the flash have a dedicated module specifically for canon? Think unless you use the off camera shoe cord2, you'll lose ttl capability with non speedlite flashes.

Sunpak 544 is a non-dedicated (non-TTL) flash and should be usable with any camera. I'd follow Bob's suggestion to double check the cord's connection and make sure the hot shoe adaptor is fully seated in the shoe.

Also check to make sure you haven't inadvertently set the camera's Custom Function #7 to "2", which disables the flash.

Oops, CF 7 set to "3" disables the flash.
