Photography Question

Sepehr

ready for eos-3?

I have been a weekend warrior for two years, I am 17 currently. I bought a canon rebel 2000, and at the time I didn't know much about photography. As I played w/ it I slowly appplied its features to my picture taking. I have decided to take photography in college which will be fall of '05,i have already taken 2 years of phtography in highschool. I would like to minor in it. my main area for subject matter is skateboarding, ive been doing it for 5 years and I have been taking pictures of it for about 1. My question is that do you think a canon eos-3 is suitable for me? it seems to have everything I am looking. But it does have a lot of extra features which I dont know how to use or even what they are for that matter, like 8.5% partial metering and 2.4% center spot metering. But it does have several features that my current camera body doesnt have(i.e. PC terminal, 4.3fps). the gist of my question is that do you think im way out of my league w/ this camera? I would greatly appreciate a response. thank you.

sincerely,
sepehr

p.s. if I plan to get the camera I plan to get it for graduation, in June.

Not if you're going to get it as a gift.
If you get the camera, the partial metering will be explained in the manual anyway. It's not something that you're not going to be able to understand.
I can't remember if the eos 3 dosen't have those portrait modes, sports modes, or landscape modes etc.., but if it dosen't, you'd be better off not depending on those anyway.
If the eos 3 has a sync speed of 250, that would be the thing I would most want it for.
If it's lower than 250, there are other models that are cheaper and could be used just as well if price ever becomes an issue.

shooting sequences is a big part of skatephotography and the 10fps w/ the eos-1v hs would be so wonderful but that is like a $1800-2000 camera, and I dont think I will ever use the like 18 programable custom set up. but price is somewhat of an issue. so thats why I think a eos-3 would do cause w/ the motor drive it will get me up to 7fps, which is good. and I dont care for those special modes(i.e. portrait modes, sports modes, or landscape modes etc.) my rebel 2000 has them and I think that is just for people who are used to P&S, they see that and go "WOW" thats so useful. thank you for responding, and so quickly too.

Well if you wanted to have a 7 picture sequence, then the eos 3 would be right up your alley.
If the goal is to use a 7 picture sequence as a way of getting the shot you wanted, then another possiblity is to work on technique and think of the eos elan as a possibility. Think fastest advance is 5fps on that.
Most of the custom settings aren't very necessary on my old A2.
But like I said, if it's a gift, go with the eos 3. If they counter with a painful look of too expensive, bring up one of the elan models.

"If they counter with a painful look of too expensive..." haha, ya thats a good alternative though, to consider an elan. one of the goals for me is the most fps I can get. because a skateboard trick can have several flips and spins in it all in a 1-2 second duration, the flips are really fast and I would say that 5fps is almost the minimum for it.but I am price concious, not for affordability reasons, its just that I think 2000 dollars for a camera is a bit much in my situation(im just a kid) but thank you for your input, you have been of great help in me drawing closer to my final decision.

Eos 3 needs the battery pack to go 7fps, otherwise it's 4.3fps vs 4fps for the elan.
Eos has higher sync speed at 200 vs 125 for the elan.
Price is $874 for the eos3 and $339 for the elan.
You can go to adorama.com to look at the descriptions.
