Nikon or Canon

I have a Canon A-1 that I love. The only problem I seem to face is focusing. I have had my eye on the Canon Rebel Ti and Nikon N75. Which is a better camera and/or brand?

I purchased a N75 last Christmas. I love it; but, I went to that from a 20 year old Cannon AE-1. It is an easy camera to use. Most of the reviews I read from pro photographers stated they kept one in their camera bag as a backup to their medium format camera. The thing I like about the Nikon is Nikon/Nikor lenses have wider glass on the front which will allow in more light, in my opinion. I don't know anything about the Canon cameras so my view is a little biased.

I've used Canon F-1's for their bright viewfinders, and choosing interchangeable screens for their brightness properties. I was amazed at the brightness of the AE-1's finder. Makers of autofocus cameras, especially the bottom of the line models, don't seem to worry as much about the brightness of the viewfinders, as many users focus using the automatic function.

You can get a brighter view for focusing no matter what the price range of your camera, by using a wider max aperture lens. If you like a 100mm for portraits, for example, Canon's FD 100 f2 (fits your AE-1) will give you a brighter view than the 100 f2.8. Wider aperture lenses often have wider glass at the front, but not always. Both of the Canon 100's mentioned have 52mm barrels. If you have trouble focusing (I do, as these eyes are 57 years old) zooms you and I can afford won't give you the bright max aperture that's best for precise focusing. 50mm lenses, because of their wide max apertures, are easier to focus. 50mm f 1.4's for your Canon are really cheap these days. If you ever look through an f1.2 lens, you'll think someone turned on a light.
