Washed Out Skies

Shots taken during the day with Elan 7e, I get washed out skies. Seems like there is no blue left when developed. Using Kodak and Fuji 100. Not sure if my problem is the film, or should I get a polarizer. I'm wondering if a circular polarizer is the best thing to help get the blues back into my outdoor shots.

Thanks,
Brent

Brent,
I recently shot a hot air balloon fest in bright daylight. I used a polarizer on some of the shots and not on others. I must say that the shots taken with the polarizer were fantastic. Beautiful blue skies. The shots taken without the polarizer were dull, flat almost grey skies. I would definitely recommend a good polarizer. And one thing you need to remember when using one, you can adjust the amout of polarization by rotating the outer element of the filter. You will also get the best results at an angle of 90 degrees to the sun.
Take a look at these two images. They were taken within moments of each other, one with a polarizer, one without. You can see the difference.
