Photography Question

Kathy Gossage

Black and white with a touch of color

I have been taking black and white photos and adding a touch of color such as to a rose or bow.I do it on Picture It program under touchup color. And I do it by hand.Could someone tell me how you stack a black and white over a color photo and erase certain sections to let the natural color come through.I might not be able to do it on the picture it program. Thanks,Kathy

Not real familiar with Picture It, but should be similiar to Microsoft's Digital Image Pro. Think you need to open your image; then copy and paste it over the original. Use effect for black & white, then use the effects transparecy brush to erase parts of the B&W layer you wish for the color to show through on. You can also adjust the transparency of the brush and the size of the brush. Let me know if you don't see these options in Picture It and will check further into it.

  Kathy,
Use the color photo as a background. Take you black and white and do a cutout, just add the cutout to the collage and you should have it. Hope this helps.

Yes, I have an older version Picture It Publishing Platinum 2001. So newer versions may not be the same but I would think so. They also have express versions which do not include all the tools included in Platinum.

In photoshop desaturate the image (if colour) then use the history brush selecting the initial open state i.e the colour state and just paint in the flowers etc.

I got Microsoft Picture It Express 7.0 free at Wal-Mart just by getting my pictures put on CD there. I have no idea if there is anything like that on there CD's anymore, it's been a couple of years since I got mine.
