Photography Question

Mariska

International Library of Photography

I am new to the better photo website, but I noticed that a lot of people have had dealings with The International Library of Photographers. Who are these people? I entered a photo and paid for a book that it was to be published in ($115AUD). They received my money in April 2004 and it is now Nov 2004 and I haven't received the book or heard anything from them. Their e-mail address is closed and I don't know how to get in contact with them. I live in Australia and it would cost a fortune to try and call and I would probably be throwing more money down the drain. I am disheartened as I thought that these people saw something in my photos. I don't know how to go about getting the book or my money back. If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated. Mariska

Stay after them. Their website, www.picture.com , gives an address of
The International Library of Photography
3600 Crondall Lane
Suite 101
Owings Mills, MD 21117

Contacting the Maryland Better Business Bureau (http://www.baltimore.bbb.org), and the Maryland Attorney General (http://www.oag.state.md.us/Consumer/) may help.

It is a scam, but the book will probably be published and sent to you eventually. It just takes them a while to accumulate enough "victims" to make publishing the next book worthwhile.

I am also being published in one of their books and before I sent them my money I checked them out with the Better Business Bureau. They've been members since 1998 and are in good standing. They've had a few instances where people never got their orders but they were fixed. Go to this webiste (www.bbbonline.com), click on FOR CONSUMERS and on the left you will see a link FILE A COMPLAINT. Hopefully this will help.

First: be careful of the Better Business Bureau - I saw a comment about them that their information is misleading and dangerous. I haven't used them - I only saw the comment.

About picture.com:
I was searching the net for photo competition opportunities on 22 October, then about 27 November I received the letter from picture.com, stating that I'd been entered into the semi-finals and stood a chance of winning the main $10,000 prize or a runner-up prize of $1000 and offered me the chance to buy the book 'Endless Journeys' in which my photo will be published, for the 'special' price of $69.95.
I was also offered the chance to write something about the photo - and have that put in a 'special' section for an extra $25.
The way they wrote the letter makes it sound very inviting, but the main thing that made me doubtful is the extra $25.
The thing is that if they publish your photo, they should pay you, and not the other way around. I would also expect a free copy.... presumably they expect to sell a lot more books than the number of photos they put in it.

Search the net for "International Library of Photography" and you'll see links to their site plus a few rip-off report sites with lots of complaints about them and their sister company, poetry.com
... that rip-off report site is also where I saw the comment about the Better Business Bureau.

Good luck.

I, too, have a photo that is supposed to be published in "A New Beginning". I received a postcard thanking me for my patience. Is this normal and should I persue it?
Thanks!

  Kelly,

I followed Christina,s advice and filed a complaint to the Better Business Bureau. It took about 10 minutes to fill in all my details and I requested that I get a full refund, which I have. Their e-mail is www.bbbonline.com

Good luck

Mariska

I also submitted a photo to ILoP and they said was photo was selected to be published in a book called "Endless Journeys". They said the book was to be published in September 2004. When I contacted them in late November 2004, they said the book was to be delayed until December. I'll be contacting them again tomorrow to sort this out, otherwise I'll be contacting the BBB of Maryland and filing a complaint

I too received a letter stating that my picture would be published in "Endless Journeys". I was also told September 2004 but when I called in November I was told that the book was delayed until JANUARY 2005. I will call them on Monday (1/10/05) and I am pretty sure they will give me some line of bull, so I will also file a complaint with the BBB.

Keep after "The International Library of Photography". I sent them a check for a photo book in October, 2003. When I did not receive my book, I phoned and phoned..they told me they never received my check. I sent them a copy of the canceled check a month ago and the book, with my photo submission, finally arrived...a year late.

Have you noticed they don't have an e-mail 'contact us' on their website?

I called ILOP on Thursday Jan. 13th about the book "Endless Journey" that I was supposed to receive in Nov. 2004. I was told that I can not get a refund because my information has already been pulled for printing so I need to wait until the end of Febuary when the book should be sent out and once I receive it then I can return it for a refund.
