How Can I Best Show Muscle Definition In a Photo?

What are some tips for taking photographs to best show muscle definition and contrast for "after" pics required for a fitness contest?

Have the model tense his muscles, then use side lighting so that the muscle casts shadows. This will make the muscle much more obvious to the viewer. If you used diffused or frontal lighting, this will make the body look flat and undefined.

My personal favourite shots are the body twisted, so that they aren't just standing flat. Let the viewer see every muscle: Thighs, abs, obliques, pecs, lats, biceps, triceps. Make sure every muscle is tensed, has shadow and light falling over it, and is visible.

Words can't do justice to what I am trying to describe, but look for those things when you flick through a body building magazine. That should give you a better idea what to look for to attain that muscled look.
