Shooting Football games day and night

I have been shooting football photos during the day and during the night, I know night photography is pretty irrating Iv used the tripod Iv used the monopod. Im getting alot of light in the day and not enough at night. Can you tell me what ISO to use and also what shutter and apature should I be using to get fresh crisp photos. Im having a hard time getting used to the new camera with mainly having to set alot of things. Can you please help me as the season is just about over and I want clear photos, I know night is going to be hard but day shouldnt be that hard correct?

Thanks again
Dee

  Dee-
Are you shooting film or digital? Either way you must use an ISO of 1600 and with digital that means alot of NOISE but with film it wont be as bad as the noise, (or graininess) is not as bad-as far as film choice goes I would use Fuji 1600 color print film or TMAX 33200 black and white film.
