studio lighting for portrait shots I'm very much a beginner at portrait photography and have been "practicing" on my friends. I'm ready to buy studio lights, but am confused by all that is out there. Of course I don't want to spend lots, hoping to keep it under $300. Is that possible? Do I need quartz lights, photoflood lights, tungsten halogen lights? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!! Oh! What do you think of Smith Victor products?

Sharla You really have to think economic. The first answer is imagination, creativity. Think in what you already have, could be modify your ex. vivitar 283/5 flash in a home made simple cardboard "soft" box coated with alu.iterior and a white linen at the openign. put that on a tripod and digidoo. Imagine large reflector, and use the sun. I have strart that way. But for cheepo working stuff, and it work...go to.
