Photography Question

Chad G. Zuber

Starting out in macro photography

I was recently approached by a doctor who asked me if I could do the photography for a book he is going to publish which will be based on external skin, eye and nail disorders, rashes, etc. He wants close-up shots of the diseases. I have actually never done "real" macro work however I told him, "Sure. I can do that". I would like suggestions regarding extension tubes, close-up filters and lens reversal. I have little money to invest in new equipment at this time. I use a minolta 600x with fixed 28mm, 50mm, 135mm lenses.
Thanks!
Chad

Put it on a credit card and charge the doctor enough to pay for it.

Your 135mm with either extension tubes or close-up lens/filter will work, though a 100mm Macro lens would be ideal.

A ring-flash for macro that attaches to the end of the lens (such as Vivitar 6000AF will give better and more even lighting to your subjects than ambient room light or standard flashes.

A tripod (and macro focusing rails) wouldn't hurt either.

D'oh! I jazzed up the link to the macro flashes.

Minolta Macro Ring Flash 1200
and
Vivitar 6000AF Macro Flash
