Photography Question

Manish Issar

right angle for CPL filter shoot

I wanted to know if somebody or John Sandstedt himself could explain me graphically as to the use of a polarizer filter. As I do not have the email address to John himself, I am tempted to ask someone from the forum that could explain me graphically to visualize the following quote “As to use of the polarizer, make your hand flat, point the thumb at the sun. Rotate your hand on the axis pointing from thumb to the sun. That will be the plane in which you'll achieve the maximum polarization effect.” unquote.

i would appreciate some help
thanks

That's a good question...I was told if my shadow is infront of or behind me, not to use the polarizer.....If my shadow is to either side of me, it would work.....works for me...:-)

Robert's explanation is a lot clearer. You get the most pronounced effect when you're shooting at a right angle. Mid morning, mid evening right angle. Not high noon right angle. As far as clouds and sky.
Windows depends on how you're facing the window.
