I charge a sitting fee to cover the cost of batteries, film, travel expenses, and extras you purchase just for the photo shoot. Charges for developing, proofs, time spent editing, etc... are made up in the package prices. It also depends on how well you know this person, what value do you put on your photos, will you get referrals from this person, etc...

I have the same problem. I have a basic package fee of $30.00, and then a session securing fee is $10.00, and then the session price (depends on the session). Is this too much? I will be useing EZPrints.com for my prints. Is this a 'sound' price list, or should I charge more/less? Let me know, and thanks! - Fawn

Here is a simple formula to go by:
Think of your break even rate. Estimate how much overhead you'll proberly incur over the year. This includes business expenses, (including planned purchases of new equipment) do you rent a place or rent equipment?, Telephone, internet usage, taxes, etc.. Personal expenses such as food, travel, gas, car repairs, etc...
Then consider your time. Your time is valuable. How long is the session? How much will you accomplish in that time.
If your doing digital think of the time editing photos, ink cartridges...
You have to count the cost to you. How much to charge to break even, how much to charge to make a profit. If you do enough then you have to consider taxes.
