Photography Question

Debra M. Watkins

preparing photos for upload

Okay, I'm REALLY a beginner. In the instructions for uploading photos, it says to prepare them for upload by making sure it is saved with one of the acceptable file extensions. It also talks about sizing. I am trying to upload a photo that has been saved for awhile, but the extension used in my photo program is .PV1, which is not one of the acceptable formats. Is there a way to convert this file and how would I go about doing that? Also, what about sizing the photo for best viewing? Can this be done after downloading previously to a computer or does it have to be done when originally downloading? Sorry about being a total novice, but I have never had to worry about the file extension, the program just took care of that for me. Please help! Thanks.

What is the photo program you are using? What is the operating computer system in use? Provide answers to this for further help please.

I am using Arcsoft Photoimpression 3.0 on Windows XP. Hoping to upgrade to Photoimpression 5.0, but awaiting customer service approval. Thanks for your help.

  Hi Debra,
I'm not familar with using arcsoft's program; however most photo programs will allow saving as a .jpg, .tif, .bmp , etc. Try going to "file", then "save as" , rather than "save". Hopefully you'll see other image format options to save as.
For the site, after it is in your photo program, then look for a tab like format, image, edit , etc.; then look for image resizing. If you find it, make sure to check to constrain proportions,or you image will become skewed or distorted. You'll want to use 72 ppi for the resolution, and whatever the shortest side of the image is, make it 500 pixels. Hopefully this helps; or someone else who has the software can walk you through it better.
