Im getting sick of having my sky blowen out most of the time where should I meeter to overcome that? I use a ME Super and consumer print film. Thanks.

I should add I use either the cameras meeter or a Gossen pilot. The pilot is always one stop slower than the camera but same results.

Photographic paper does not have the dynamic range to capture both the bright sky and the more dimly lit or shadowed subjects in the scene. If you meter on the sky your dimmer subjects may only show in silhouette (maybe what you want?) or the lab may print the photo too light to bring up the detail in the darker elements of the scene. If that's the case take your negs back to be reprinted to your satisfaction.

But if you want both a deep blue sky and bright detail in the shaded foreground, then you'll have to even out the exposure between them using a split or graduated neutral density filter and/or polarizing filter. If your otherwise-too-dark subjects are close enough, you can also meter on the sky and use fill flash to brighten the foreground subject.

I'll give the polorizer another try. Was tired of loosing the two stops.

Jon. A polorizer won't have any effect with the sun at my back. Sun to the side is the most effective.
