Over-exposure, help please! Hi there, fairly new to this digi-cam world. Bought myself the new Canon A85, and I'm struggling a bit with getting a not-to-dark foreground and a bright background to have the correct exposure. Is it possible? I've often taken 2 pics - one at the correct exposure for each - but there must be a way to get the background away from the well over the top lighting I'm getting at the moment. I haven't got a photo handy to show - but basically the pleasant blue sky is turning white! Thanks Chris

From what you're describing, it sounds like it might not be possible for your camera to capture the full range of light in that situation. If it's absolutely that you get the photo, try capturing your subject, then the sky, and copying and pasting your correctly-exposed subject into the photo with the correctly-exposed sky. A filter on your camera might also help, but I don't know if they're available for your camera. Hope that helps,

If you can "lock exposure" with your camera (or meter manually), with the sun at your back, use the deep blue sky as your point of reference to set the exposure. This will give you the best overall balance of the blue sky and surrounding landscape under these harsh conditions. Or, you can just exclude the sky from the composition and expose the scene normally.
