Photography Question

Lighting & Film

I have a couple questions. I recently have been shooting weddings, and need some tips on lighting and film for the reception.
What would be the best route to go when taking these reception photos when it is relatively dark? But I would like to keep the same "color theme" in other words I dont want the photos to turn out to dark, making the pictures loose the colors of whatever special ambiance lighting they have. I dont want it to look flat.but I want moving or still images to be in focus.
Also I dont have much faith in film speed higher than 400. I recently tried fugi 800 spd film, and I was not happy with it, it was considerably grainy, is there a better film grade to use when catching those fast pace shots when the lighting is poor? I really appreciate any suggestions you can give me.
I sometimes will shoot with my digital camera for these weddings to back myself up, but it is more film based, and I'd liek to keep it that way. Also any tips on some fun filters or just fun wedding photo ideas?

You need to find a film you like to use under most circumstances and make it work for your weddings. I've shot 10 weddings with ISO-200 and flash, and had great results.

I have had a problem with ISO-400 and flash; skin tones get a little "ruddy."

I don't understand the graininess issue you've mentioned using FUJI ISO-800. I used that film on vacations to Hawaii and the Greek Isles and had no problems with enlargements to "8X12".

You might wan to try "pushing" ISO-200 one stop. Just remember to alert you photo-finisher to that fact.
