lighting for portable studio


hi all I have a canon eos 5 and have purchased a 550 ex flash I want to do do some mobile portrait work what lighting would you recommend and what lense as iam about to buy both I was looking at a sigma 24/40 ? is that about right for portrait as the only other lense I have now is a 70-200 and I need a wide angle lense would apreciate your imput thankyou .

  A question like this is very hard to answer because when you say you want portable lighting, you have it. An 85mm lens is about right for portrait work.

For protrait, it is very common to use lenses in 85mm to 135mm focal length, which your 70-200mm already covered. Hope this helps.

  Thankyou andy and jerry for your answers as you can probably guess by the question iam knew to photoghraphy I thought you had to have a wide angle lense for portrait ? and also do you think a medium format camera is better for portrait I have been looking at mamiya. Sorry I meant studio lighting I can set up as a studio in my front room or take with me to someone elses house for example .Thankyou angie
